A group of 29 local businessmen established the Club in 1906.They purchased a small area of land to the north of the B5207 (Holes 9 to 17).  These Gentlemen decided on the layout of this 9 hole course.  For a short period of time a local hostelry, the Kenyon Junction Hotel, was used as the Clubhouse. These arrangements did not last for very long and a small Clubhouse, located on the site of the present 9th Bar, was built.

By February 1919, the Membership had increased to 192.  The Members started to investigate the possibility of purchasing/leasing more land in order to expand the course to 18 holes.

In 1924, local landowner Sir Edward Johnson-Ferguson offered the building which is the current Clubhouse and sufficient land to build another 9 holes, to the Club and a lease agreement was signed.  Mr H Hilton, the well-known amateur of the time, was commissioned to lay out the extra 9 holes.  The 18 hole course was opened for play in May 1925.  The course was used for grazing sheep through the period of the 1939-45 war.

In 1956, the Johnson-Ferguson family offered the Club the opportunity to purchase the Clubhouse and land.  An Issue of Debentures to the Members raised the money.  All the Members were eventually fully reimbursed for the loan.  Since that time, the Club has managed to purchase more land when it has become available.  Much of the land lies around the perimeters of the present Course.  The present Members owe a lot to the foresight of those 29 Gentlemen and others and it is hoped the Club will go on being a “little gem of a Course” for many years to come.
